Café Fermata at 16626 Old Chesterfield Rd occupies the historic Edward L. Schmidt house and shares the building with the 89th Key Music Studio. There are pianos on site, and the baristas perform while they make drinks.
That is not a marketing line someone wrote about the room — it’s how the place operates, stated by the business itself. Open 8am to 6pm Monday through Thursday and 8 to 3 Friday through Sunday. If you have ever wanted your latte accompanied, this is the only address in the county that does it.
Chesterfield
Kaldi’s Coffee — Chesterfield, 17211 Chesterfield Airport Rd, 6:30am to 5pm daily. Kaldi’s is a St. Louis company rather than a national chain, and this location is the most useful room in west county if you actually need to get work done: it states free wifi and ample parking on its own site, and it has a cupping room you can reserve for a meeting or a training session. That’s the clearest work-friendly claim any coffee shop in this region publishes. It also opens earlier than anything else in Chesterfield.
The Tea Spout by Aquene Amora, 17712 Chesterfield Airport Rd. Organic coffee served alongside a full tea program, Tuesday to Friday 7 to 3 and Saturday 10 to 3. The space is available for events during and after hours, which is unusual for a shop this size.
Corner Cafe at Greentrails, 14276 Ladue Rd, is certified Kosher by the Vaad — the only kosher-certified cafe in this guide — and its hours follow that. Open until 8:30pm Sunday through Thursday, closing at 5pm Friday, then opening at 10:30pm Saturday night and running to midnight. Read that twice before you drive over on a Friday evening.
Ballwin and Ellisville
This is where west county’s coffee actually lives.
The Wolf Cafe, 15480 Clayton Rd, Suite 210, Ballwin. Open 7am to 9pm Tuesday through Friday — one of only six independents in the whole metro open that late — then 8 to 3 Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.
The Ground STL, 109 Ballpark Dr, Ballwin. A coffeehouse and a plant shop in the same room, open at 6am on weekdays, one of the earliest in the metro. Worth noting that several listing sites place it in Wildwood; its own site says Ballwin.
6 North Cafe, 14438 Clayton Rd, Ballwin. Family-owned, free-standing building with a drive-thru, weekdays 7 to 3. They’re straightforward that they pour Kaldi’s rather than roasting their own, and they bake their own cookies, muffins and pastries in house.
Kaldi’s Ellisville Drive-Thru, 147 Clarkson Rd, 6am to 4pm every day. This was Kaldi’s first drive-thru, with an express menu and a little outdoor seating.
Qahwatea Coffee, 15957 Manchester Rd, Ellisville, is the most interesting room out here and the hardest to pin down. It’s a Yemeni coffeehouse built as a deliberately alcohol-free late-night alternative — hand-stitched Yemeni wicker chairs, cushion seating, carved Moroccan panels, murals of Yemeni life — and it’s reported open to 10pm on weeknights and midnight on Friday and Saturday, which would make it the latest-closing coffeehouse in the metro. The catch: the business has no website, so those hours come from a magazine feature rather than the owners, and listings disagree about Sunday. Call before you go, and then go.
Creve Coeur
La Bonne Bouchée, 12344 Olive Blvd, has been a French patisserie here since 1981 — older than most of the neighborhood around it. The bakery and café run to 8:30pm Tuesday through Saturday; the restaurant side closes at 2:30pm. Two schedules, one building, and people get caught by it.
Gateway Coffee Company, 12806 Olive Blvd, opened in December 2022 and sources its baked goods from Trolley Stop Bakery. Weekdays 7 to 6, Saturday 8 to 6, Sunday 8 to 3.
Just over the line
Two more worth knowing if you’re willing to cross a municipal boundary, which nobody in an actual car cares about.
Rosemary Coffee Co. sits at 1316 Big Bend Rd, technically in Twin Oaks right at the Manchester line — which is why half the listings put it in one town and half in the other. It has patio seating, a lending library, and a wall of products from mostly women-owned local vendors. The one thing we can’t give you is hours: their own site posts them as an image rather than text, so call. Listings put the weekday open at 6am, which would make it one of the earliest in the region.
Deer Creek Coffee at 9820 Clayton Rd is a real independent, but the address is Ladue, not west county proper. It gets tagged to Des Peres constantly in search results. If you’re coming from Des Peres or Town and Country, it’s likely closer than anything actually inside your own city limits — which says something about the state of coffee in those two towns.
Where west county has nothing
Three of the towns in this search have no independent coffee shop at all, and no guide seems willing to say it.
Wildwood has none. The City of Wildwood’s own food and drink listing names four cafe-type businesses in the entire municipality: a Starbucks, a St. Louis Bread Co, Letty Lou’s Cafe & Diner and Sunny Street Cafe. There is no independent coffee house in Wildwood Town Center. If you live there, the nearest real options are in Ellisville and Ballwin, five to ten minutes east.
Town and Country and Des Peres have none either. Every shop that gets tagged to those two in search results — 6 North, The Ground, Deer Creek — is physically in Ballwin or Ladue. That’s not a technicality if you’re deciding whether to drive.
For two of the wealthiest municipalities in Missouri to have no independent coffee shop between them is a genuinely strange fact, and if you were considering opening one, it’s the most interesting sentence in this article.

Beyond the mall, a few things worth knowing before you trust another list.
“thePerk” turns up in Creve Coeur coffee results, but it’s Missouri Baptist University’s campus cafe — real, and not a public coffee shop you’d plan a morning around. One Chesterfield roaster that appears in AI-generated summaries traces back to a business in Dubai with a similar name. And Course Coffee Roasters, which shows up constantly in west county results, is in St. Charles, across the river.
